Far infrared saunas use carbon fiber heaters tuned to the far infrared wavelength, which penetrates deeper into the body's tissue than near or mid infrared. Full spectrum units add near and mid infrared emitters alongside the far infrared panels, giving you the option to run individual wavelength modes or combine them. If you have a specific use case in mind — red light therapy, for example — a full spectrum unit covers more ground.
Carbon fiber heaters produce electromagnetic fields as a byproduct of converting electricity to heat. Low-EMF certification means the heater panels have been tested and confirmed to emit below the threshold considered acceptable for prolonged, close-contact exposure. Because you are sitting within inches of the heaters for 20 to 45 minutes at a time, this specification matters more here than it would in a standard household appliance.
Both are stable, low-resin softwoods suited to the heat cycling of an infrared sauna. Canadian Hemlock is lighter in color, dimensionally consistent, and holds up well across temperature and humidity changes. Cedar is naturally aromatic, slightly more resistant to moisture at the surface, and preferred by buyers who want the traditional sauna aesthetic. Neither will warp or crack under normal residential use when the sauna is assembled correctly and allowed to dry between sessions.
Infrared saunas ship free on most orders within the Continental U.S. — Alaska and Hawaii are excluded. Units arrive freight, typically palletized, and assembly is handled by you using the included hardware and instructions.
